Toolbox Summer Design Intern started today

Please welcome Stephanie Stahn — our 2007 Toolbox Summer Design Intern. She will be splitting her internship time between design for print and Web. Stephanie is a communications design student at Texas State University and also has part time experience working for a local ad agency. Her internship will run until mid August.

U-TURN Magazine and the U-TURN Podcast win national design awards

Last night, Julie Finlay picked up three Distinguished Achievement Awards for U-TURN and the U-TURN Podcast at the Association of Educational Publishers conference in Washington, D.C. Honors include:

• U-TURN, whole publication design — 2006 editions
  
• U-TURN, article design “Art Cause: Gone to Ghana”, Spring 2006
  
• U-TURN Podcast, special audience technology, audio/visual

U-TURN also was a national finalist for the organization’s top honor, the Golden Lamp Award.

Maybe a year after we created the AIRS identity last year, we went back and revisited the original sketches and steps it took to arrive at the final concept; in many ways the final solution was a departure from the original vision; however, seeds of the original idea can be found even in the initial thumbnail. this kind of process stuff interests us here at toolbox. anyway, here's the evolution of a logo:

Clemens & Spencer website is live

Toolbox launched Clemens & Spencer's web home this week.

An illustrator friend of Toolbox's, Von Glitschka, is coming out with a textures book, being published by F+W / How Books. If you're a texture junkie like me, here's the book you've been waiting for. 'Crumble. Crackle. Burn - 120 Stunning Textures for Design and Illustration'. His website even includes some free textures to download.

More client websites go live

Last week, the Toolbox Web team expedited the launch of alamohospice.com to coincide with an interview with Alamo Hospice CEO Dale Hicks on the San Antonio Living television show. The interview was broadcast Monday on WOAI. Also, this week the Web team is launching a new site for Clemens-Spencer, one of San Antonio’s most established law firms.

While working for the Kansas City Kings NBA team, Toolbox Account Executive Kathy Babb met the San Diego Chicken. Recognized as the first professional sports mascot, The Chicken’s impact to the industry is such that The Sporting News editors named him as one of The Top 100 Most Powerful People in Sports of the 20th Century. He's on a list that includes Muhammad Ali, Babe Ruth, Jesse Owens, Pete Rozelle, Ted Turner and Wayne Gretzky among others.
